About Jim

Jim Chalmers MP has been the Member for Rankin since September 2013, proudly representing the people and suburbs of southern Brisbane and Logan City where he was born, grew up, and made a home with Laura and Leo.

 

Since October 2015, Jim has served as the Shadow Minister for Financial Services and Superannuation, Shadow Minister for Sport and the Shadow Assistant Minister for Trade, Investment and Productivity. Prior to that, Jim was Shadow Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Investment. He also served as Deputy Chair of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Tax and Revenue and Joint Standing Committee on Trade and Investment Growth, and was a member of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics until October 2015.

 

Before being elected to Parliament, Jim was the Executive Director of the Chifley Research Centre and, prior to that, Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer. . He has a PhD in political science and international relations and a first class honours degree in public policy, and has taught politics at three universities. He is a member of the Griffith University Logan Campus Development Advisory Group and the Board of Advisers at the Center for Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Studies at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.

 

Jim's book Glory Daze was published in July 2013 and he tweets as @JEChalmers. His broad policy interests are the economy, education and foreign affairs.
