Scott sets the Gold Standard

AFTER five elections in 13 years, our friend Desley Scott has announced that this will be her last term as the Member for Woodridge.

I want to join with all of those who have sung her praises since that announcement.

I see Desley at countless events in our area, and I've enjoyed every minute working with her to advance our local community.

Some people call Desley the Mother of Logan.

I prefer to think of her as the Gold Standard, especially when it comes to the commitment she demonstrates and the representation she provides for so many people in our area.

The Labor Party has now endorsed Cameron Dick to fly our flag in Woodridge, and I am looking forward to working with him.

I am absolutely confident that he will meet the high standards set by Desley in her time as MP.

He will also fly our flag more broadly, energetically putting our area on the state political map.

As a former education minister and attorney-general, he has the skills and experience to do a fantastic job for our community and for Queensland.

Like Desley, Cameron has a good Labor heart.

Like Desley, he believes in investing in local people, improving schools and hospitals and doing what we can to encourage the creation of jobs and opportunities, especially for the young or the disadvantaged.

I'm looking forward to working with Desley for the remainder of her term.

Beyond that, I hope to work with Cameron and Labor's other candidates throughout Logan - great colleagues like Shannon Fentiman, Linus Power and Mick de Brenni - to stand up for Logan and its people.

First published in the Logan Reporter on Friday 28th of March and online.
