It’s been great to see Logan getting the positive media attention it deserves over the last couple of weeks.
The fantastic stories in the newspapers and on television have been a great reminder to our knockers from both inside and outside the region that Logan is a strong, diverse and vibrant community.
Kathy de Leon and the whole “Gotta Love Logan” Facebook community deserve a lot of credit for reinvigorating our community spirit, especially after Premier Newman recently repeated the slur about “bogans who live in Logan”.
The people who knock us clearly haven’t seen the same Logan we get to see.
Every day when I’m out and about in our community, I get to meet with people and groups that do so much good work – helping the disadvantaged, promoting cultural understanding and generally making Logan a better place.
It was really pleasing to see that one of these groups who I wrote about recently, the Good Start Program, has had their funding extended for another year.
This came after so many people in the Maori and Pasifika community of Logan and Brisbane united to stand up against the unfair attacks on this important preventative health program.
It’s a great reminder of the power of our community when we work together to stand up for what is right.
All of us should be proud to come from Logan. I’m down in Canberra for Parliament this week, but rest assured that while you can take the boy out of Logan, you can’t take Logan out of the boy!
