It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since the federal election when you gave me the opportunity of representing us in the federal parliament.
I want to thank everyone for the countless conversations that I’ve had, community events I’ve been invited to, and the way we have worked together over the past 12 months.
It has been a tremendous privilege to help build a culture of looking out for each other and looking after each other; to make the case for secure jobs and better educational pathways for our young people; to stand up for our local area against the Abbott Government cuts which target us; and so much more.
This year has been a turbulent one in federal politics. We’ve seen Mr Abbott and his government go back on countless pre-election promises and commitments which will make it harder for average people to get by.
They’ve revealed plans to introduce a GP tax, charge students more for university degrees and have cut billions of dollars from pensions, schools and hospitals.
As part of the Labor Opposition, I have been fighting these unfair cuts and changes that will hit our community harder than most.
I’m grateful every single day for your support, your encouragement and your community spirit, and I’m as fired-up today as I’ve ever been for the important work we need to do in the years ahead.
