No matter your language, background or culture, sport has the power to bring us closer together.
That’s one of the reasons that I will be hosting The World Game Multicultural Festival with SBS and Access Community Services in Logan next week.
Former Socceroos and current SBS commentators Craig Foster, David Zdrilic and Jason Culina will be headlining the festival, and leading a friendly soccer game and skills clinic.
It’s a rare opportunity to have such high-profile Australian soccer personalities in Logan to celebrate our strong multicultural community.
In my electorate alone, there are people here from more than 189 different homelands, making it one of the most diverse places to live in Australia.
It’s this diversity that we are seeking to celebrate through soccer, the world’s sport.
A team from Logan Metro will face off against players from SBS and ACCESS in the main game.
Local community groups and sports clubs are getting involved to support this event, including Westpac at Logan Central, Griffith University, Brisbane Roar FC, Football Queensland, Rochedale Rovers FC, South Brisbane Futsal Club and Football Brisbane.
The event is being held on the sports fields at Griffith University Logan Campus next Monday, the 10th of November, at 3:15 PM.
If you’re interested in coming along to brush up on your soccer skills, or to meet the Australian soccer legends, just turn up, or contact my office on 3299 5910.
