I’m sure you agree that mental health is a big challenge for our community and that young people aren’t spared its effects.

That’s why I’m pleased to be attending the official opening of the new headspace centre at Meadowbrook this week.

headspace is a fantastic service for people aged 12-25, offering mental and general health support, counselling, vocational services and alcohol and drug services.

Studies show that one in four young people in Australia will experience a mental health disorder this year. Left untreated, these conditions can contribute to other issues, like problems at school, difficulties at work and family stress.

Jacklyn, Anna and the rest of the team at headspace Meadowbrook are devoted to helping young people in our area who are experiencing the early signs and symptoms of mental ill-health.

So far, 92 per cent of young people using headspace centres in other parts of the country have reported improvements in their mental health after using headspace and we hope to see the same results here in Logan.

Funding for headspace at Meadowbrook was announced in June 2013 as part of the last Labor Government’s record investment in mental health

If you, or a young person you know, are worried about your mental health, I urge you to give headspace Meadowbrook a call or drop in to make an appointment.
