Last week, new statistics were released confirming that the Abbott Government has targeted our community in its first two budgets.
Unfortunately, families in Woodridge have been hit harder than in any other suburb in Queensland, losing on average $658 each year as a result of Abbott Government budget decisions.
Families in Marsden and right around other parts of Logan are also much worse off.
You may be interested to know that families in wealthier areas of Sydney, including Mr Hockey’s own electorate and Mr Turnbull’s electorate, actually gained money – up to $178 per year – as a result of their budget decisions.
This evidence was released by the National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling (NATSEM), one of Australia’s most respected economic modellers, and independent of all political parties.
They have confirmed what Labor has been saying for well over twelve months – that Mr Abbott and Mr Hockey are burdening the people who can least afford it with the costs of their broken promises.
This just highlights how unfair this Abbott Government is.
In contrast, Labor has promised to ask multinational companies to pay their fair share of tax, and to fix the overly generous superannuation tax concessions for the highest earners in the super system.
I believe that we need to improve the budget bottom line, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of the families in our area who are already struggling to make ends meet.
