MEDIA RELEASE: SUPER GAP BETWEEN WORDS AND DEEDS

Turnbull Government propaganda about super for women and low income earners completely ignores the harsh impacts of their own policies.

A combination of abolishing the Low Income Super Contribution and freezing the Super Guarantee is a double-blow for women and people on modest incomes.

It’s not what they say about super that matters, it’s what they do. And their record is appalling.

The Turnbull Government’s plans will see 3.6 million Australians lose up to $500 per year when the LISC disappears, and 2.2 million of those adversely affected will be women.

To make things worse, freezing the super guarantee at 9.5 per cent also wipes an average of $20,000 from the retirement savings of every Australian.

The average retirement payout for women is $85,000 less than men and a third of women have no super at all, which makes them more reliant on the pension.

When it comes to a decent retirement for women and low income earners Malcolm Turnbull and Scott Morrison are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

The Turnbull Government should spare us their crocodile tears about women and people on modest incomes and give them a fair go in the super system.
