GST Hike Will Hurt Locals

Reports that Malcolm Turnbull is considering ways to raise the GST show how little things have changed since he replaced Tony Abbott.
It’s the same old attack on low- and middle-income families living in Logan who are just trying to put food on the table.
An average family would pay an extra $5,000 in GST each year if the rate increased to 15 per cent and applied to all goods including fresh food, health and education.
What’s worse is that we know increases to the GST hit the poorest the most, which means that Malcolm Turnbull’s tax hike will overwhelmingly hurt people already struggling to get by.
This proposed GST increase comes on top of plans to scrap penalty rates and unfair cuts to Family Tax Benefits.
Some families with teenage children will end up $5,700 per year worse off as a result of the Liberals’ proposed changes to family payments.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s Tony Abbott or Malcolm Turnbull, this Government seems set on raising the cost of living for local households.
If you want to chat about these issues, I will be holding mobile offices this Saturday at 9:30AM at the Marsden on Fifth Shopping Centre, and at 11AM at the Mn-Oushy Pizza Shop in Logan Central.
It’s only with your support that Labor can try to prevent these unfair attacks on local families.
